ONLINE MICRO TEACHING LEARNING LOG- REFLECTION
The online micro-teaching log was fun to do, and I got the opportunity to know and understand how to navigate the blackboard, it seemed fun to do. It gave me an opportunity to enhance my technology skill as a 21st century teacher.
It is a tool that I would not hesitate to use again in future if I had to use it. On a normal day, I would not prefer to teach online because one cannot be certain if the learners had indeed understood the concept, because chances are, most of the time when learners are in online classes, they would be on their comfort zones.
Having to conduct an online class, is difficult because most of the time learners are not engaged as they would have, if they were to be in a classroom. I would not advice anyone to do online teaching.
The online lesson that i conducted myself, was good, the lesson was a success. Learners were engaged the whole and they were asking questions, which shows that they had an interest in the topic I was delivering.
Learners seemed like they understood the content as they were even relating the content to the real life experiences, Thandiwe was relating the malaria sickness to how she thought it was not a disease that could kill someone. She was thankful that she had this lesson as she had a clarity on the kind of a disease malaria is.
Esmenia was also enthusiastic about the topic as she added on how one can keep healthy from being severly affected by the diseases that we were doing on the topic. Candour furthermore explained that he was also excited about the topic because it will bring clarity to him as to understand more about the effects of diseases on the population growth. Bonolo additionally added that she was also grateful for the lesson as she needed a clarity on the effects of population growth, she related the topic to the pandemic we experienced of COVID-19 showing that she understood and had clarity after the lesson.
What went well during your online micro teaching lesson?
The learners were engaging with the topic showing meaning that they had an understanding of the concepts that i was delivering.
What challenges or obstacles did i encounter and how did i address them?
Fortunately i did not encounter any obstacles when i was delivering the lesson.
Did i meet the lesson objectives?
Yes, i was able to meet the lesson objectives, i could see that by how the learners were interacting with the topic, and by the end of the lesson, they were still enthusiastic about the topic, asking questions, which made me revisit the closure phase time, as mostly such incidents happen and learners tend to go beyond the given time of the period to ask questions.
Did you use the appropriate ict tools to teach an online lesson? and why?
For my online lesson, i used PowerPoint, which was a relevant and proper resource to use as learners were able to see my screen and I also used Youtube video, to keep them engaged, these were the resources i could use for online lesson with that topic.
What did i learn from the experience that i can apply to the teaching of this lesson in the classroom
I learnt that learners were interacting with the lesson, which made me think that it is one of those topics that one should not only brush them off, but rather dwell much on them and show learners the significance of knowing and understanding such topics, as they are real life topics.
How did i incorporate feedback from peers, mentors, or students into my lesson improvement process
I incorporated the feedback by further explaining the topic, as some learner had questions which needed clarity, therefore I incorporated further explanation.
SERVICE LEARNING LOG - REFLECTION
TEACHING LOG REFLECTION- (TASK 2-LIFE OF A TEACHER)
The life of a teacher was fun to do, because it was like I was doing a revision, or had revisited an old place i am fond of, I finally had the opportunity to stand and teach the grade 4 class, as i did out go for teaching experience on the first year due to the covid 19 regulations.
Every activity served as an opportunity for me to experience how it is in the field of work, having to address learners as an actual teacher instead of being their "student teacher', it was nice to be in charge and having learners to give me the authority and respect.
To perform the duties was not a difficult task to do as I am already used to the working environment as it is nothing new to what i did to the previous schools that I was allocated to do my teaching experience at. Having to do break duties was not a difficult task to and therefore I enjoyed every task that I did.
How did you cope /manage completing the three days of "life of a teacher"
The first day of doing the life of a teacher, I was nervous as i did not know how will the other learners receive me in their classes as i was only used to the grade 7 learners. The first day of Block 1, i was panicking, and did not know my ways around the school, as i was still settling in the school. For Block 2, day 2 and 3 i was excelling as i knew my ways around the schools and i was also used to the learners around the school.
How did you feel taking all the responsibilitties of a teacher in Block 1 compared to Block 2
I was okay taking the responsibillities, as it is something that i will have to do everyday once i am on field, therefore i did not have any worries about that, my concern were how the learners will receive me.
which activities did you find most challenging? how did you overcome the challenges?
Fortunately i did not have any activities that i felt that they were too extreme for me, i was enjoying being in charge of the classes.
Analyse the results of your self-evaluation survey
I feel like i al ready to go to the co-operate world, as i have came across different schools and different learners who have unique differences, therefore i have experiences three different levels of schools each with its uniqueness, and i have settled just well , therefore i am ready for field work.

Hi, I’m Lydia
I am a bubbly person, kind, loving, and enthusiastic about being a teacher as I have since loved to be a teacher at a young age.
Throughout the years I have been on a journey of a teacher, I have grown into the career, I have made mistakes, and I have learnt from them. I have learnt to embrace my shortcomings and use them as an opportunity to do better next time with an experience.
I have came across challenges that made me question my choice of career, but eventually i decided to not let them get to my head, and started having a positive mindset, which is something I need to teach my learners once I am on field.
A wisemen once said, it takes both the sunlight and darkness to make the flower grow, and this is what I take going forward, that both compliments and criticisms makes one grow.
what makes me happy
